Be Active!

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the „Erasmus +” expression? Great opportunities, non-formal education, different cultures or travelling itself? We have great news for you: Erasmus + includes all of those! It’s an amazing programme supported by the European Commission which covers four main areas: education, training, youth and sport.

A major part of these opportunities are the so-called ”youth exchanges”. These programmes invite groups of young people, aged from 18 to 30, from all around of Europe to meet and work on different projects for a short period of time, from 5 days up to 21.

Presenting the BAIS and Hungary, the seven of us were lucky enough to participate in the ”Be Active” youth exchange which was hosted in the ancient mansion of Rakican, Slovenia, from the 25th of August to the 3rd of September.

The location couldn’t have been better for the topic of the exchange, since we were surrounded by incredible nature and huge outdoor spaces to play the volleyball, try the disc golf, challenge ourselves by trust games and strengthen the community through various group games and energizers. Five participating countries worked as one team to come up with new sport games and activities, learn interesting facts about each other’s cultures and deepen our knowledge about the topic of the project. This diverse international team included young people from Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and Romania.

It’s a hard task to sum up all the things that we experienced and learnt during the ”Be Active” youth exchange. First of all, we took advantage of the international environment and practiced English a lot, altogether with our public speaking skills. By participating actively in the different workshops, we were inspired to use our creativity much more than ever. Another benefit was that we got to know other cultures in a unique way: we could taste some of the best dishes and drinks of the participating countries on the intercultural dinner, we had the chance to learn each others’ traditional dances and teach our favourite songs.

We realized how many things we share in common and yet, how colourful and diverse Europe is.

So come on, be active, take your chance and be the next one who travels with a youth exchange to learn about the world and yourself in a unique way!
